Developing Numeracy through Literature

Course Aims

Children love books and there are many excellent books that present mathematical situations that can be used to develop numeracy skills.

In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to experience some of these books and consider what children might learn through taking the ideas from the books and using them in creative ways.

This workshop aims to :

• Introduce a number of books that may not have been seen before
• Investigate some mathematics questions that have come across as a result of reading these books to children
• View some student work samples
• Increase participant's own mathematical knowledge
